We are expanding in capability and scope to bring together our local government, sectoral and financing expertise to support regional projects that have the highest growth potential.
Local authorities have set ambitious targets to deliver infrastructure for their local communities in support of net zero, regional and local economic growth. They act as project sponsors, work to crowd-in private investment and invest where there is limited market provision.
Through our Regional Project Accelerator we bring our public and private sector expertise together to improve the quality, increase the volume and accelerate the pace of project pipelines being delivered. Our new approach will focus on longer-term and deeper relationships through strategic partnerships with high growth Mayoral Strateguc Authorities and City Regions, as well as support for more complex and regionally and nationally significant projects across the four nations.
Our Regional Project Accelerator offer includes:
1. Strategic partnerships: a longer-term commitment to deepen existing relationships with regional leaders and senior officers to unlock the investment needed to achieve their local growth and clean energy goals
2. Project advisory support: advisory support for a focused number of regionally significant projects across the UK. Project advisory support may be provided over an extended period at multiple stages of development, depending on specific project needs
This includes supporting earlier stage activities such as project feasibility, options appraisal and structuring through to advising on the commercial and financial aspects of a project and their business cases
We will prioritise projects that demonstrate deliverability, innovation, impact, and replicability
Our advisory services continue to be provided at no charge to the authority
3. Lending: We can support projects that meet our investment principles across the UK by offering low cost, flexible lending, directly to local government at gilts +40bps.
Local authorities face common challenges when seeking to develop and deliver projects that support clean energy and local growth ambitions and we recognise the sector needs support for commercial project development and to secure finance.
We predominantly provide services within the following sectors: building retrofit and energy system decarbonisation, clean energy and heat networks, transport and place based regeneration and investment.
